The Flat Zone stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee

Flat Zone is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The battlezone takes place within an original Game & Watch console named Super Smash Bros.. The overall layout of the buttons and background make the game heavily resemble Helmet, though other features from other Game And Watch games do appear.

To pay homage to the Game & Watch artstyle, all combatants are completely 2D, and while walking, they make a "beeping" sound, similar to the Mr. Game & Watch character under normal gameplay. The music takes form as a mash-up of various sound effects from other Game & Watch games, along with a backing synthesiser.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl features a successor to this stage with Flat Zone 2.

Games Referenced[edit]

  • Helmet: Overall layout of physical stage and backgrounds; falling tools
  • Manhole: Platforms in the centre of the stage, which periodically disappear and reappear in varying patterns by a man who is playable from Manhole.
  • Oil Panic: A character can walk across the arena, and in the character's appearances, he falls and spills oil onto a portion of the stage, creating a low-traction zone.
