Fire is a Game & Watch game that was released in 1980 as part of the Silver range edition. It was re-released in 1981 in a Wide Screen range edition. It is one of the million selling Game and Watch consoles.
In Fire, the player controls two firemen holding a trampoline under a burning building on the left side of the screen. The player can move left or right to one of three spaces. The objective of the game is to rescue as many Mr. Game & Watches as possible, who are jumping out of the burning building. They will first land on the leftmost space, and after hitting the trampoline will bounce upwards to the middle space, where the player must move to catch them once again. This is repeated until the Mr. Game & Watch lands in the ambulance on the right of the screen. If a Mr. Game & Watch hits the floor, they will appear in pain for a brief second and then disappear. In the top right corner of the screen, an icon depicting a Mr. Game & Watch with a halo over its head marks the number of failed rescues. Once the player has missed three Mr. Game & Watches, the game ends. The game gets especially difficult as it goes on, when multiple Mr. Game & Watches may appear at once. The players score, rather than being the number of Mr. Game & Watches rescued, is based off of the number of bounces on the trampoline.
Aesthetics and sound
The screen is entirely black and white, except for the fire from the building and parts of the ambulance, which are red. The game moves frame-by frame, like most Game & Watch games. The only sound is a sharp beep when a Mr. Game & Watch dies.
